Woman's handbag snatched outside Nicolson Street Tesco

Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman had her handbag stolen in Edinburgh.

The incident happened around 10pm yesterday (14th February) in Nicolson Street.

The woman had been standing outside the Tesco store when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her bag.

The suspect then ran off through Haddons Court towards the Pleasance before being lost to sight.

Police are now appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed anything suspicious to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, late 20's, approximately 6ft tall with a slim build and shaven head. He was wearing a grey hooded top and white jogging bottoms.

A police spokesman said: "This was a distressing incident for the woman, though, thankfully, she was not injured.

"Anyone who was on Nicolson Street at the time of the incident and has information that can assist with our enquiries should contact police immediately.

"Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect and can help us to identify and locate him should also come forward."
