That's a blooming relief - flowers cause concern

A long row of flowers outside the McEwan's Alehouse in Clerk Street stirred up concerns that tragedy had befallen the popular watering hole.

One early morning commuter passing the pub yesterday alerted the Evening News to the floral tributes gathering outside.

Thankfully no misfortune had befallen the bar's regulars or staff, despite the apparent outpouring of sympathy on its front doorstep.

Instead, a painter had taken down the pub's collection of hanging baskets from its frontage and arranged them respectfully on the pavement before applying a fresh coat of paint to the bar.
