Parents
and teachers at South Morningside Primary School are pleading with the
city council to buy a former church for conversion into classrooms to
alleviate serious overcrowding.
South
Morningside has more than 600 pupils split between three sites. Nursery
pupils are based in Fairmilehead, with two primary 1 classes in former
church halls in Cluny Drive, and the rest of the school in Comiston
Road.Campaigner Marion Calder said: "There's no separate accommodation whatsoever – even what was a medical room is now a resource centre, so if anyone's sick there's nowhere for them to go. There's a lot of accidents in the playground because the children have no room to run around." A council spokeswoman said: "We are currently looking into our finances to see if there is any potential to purchase the property." Source: Edinburgh Evening News |
