A mugger who robbed a woman of her handbag and left her injured after a struggle is being sought by police.
The 55-year-old victim was robbed at around 1.30pm on Friday in the Gilmerton area of the Capital.
The woman was walking alone along a footpath known as The Pillars when she was approached from behind by the suspect, who grabbed her handbag.
Following a brief struggle the suspect made off with the handbag, which he discarded after taking the woman's purse.
The suspect is described as white, 20 to 25-years-old, 5ft 8in to 5ft 9in tall, with short dark brown hair. He was wearing a navy crew neck jumper with horizontal stripes, and jeans.
A police spokesman said: "The victim received minor injuries as a result of the struggle that took place, and she is understandably distressed as a result of her ordeal.
"We want to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who was in the area at the time and noticed the suspect there.
"Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect should also get in touch."
