Serving members of the Armed Forces will line up for the veterans’ charity Erskine on Monday 2nd May and take on the mighty Legends of Heart of Midlothian FC. The hotly-anticipated tie aims to raise awareness and funds for both Erskine and the Heart of Midlothian FC Education & Community Trust.
Legends tipped to take part include Scott Crabbe, John Robertson and Gary Mackay. Erskine Select will be led by W01 (RSM) Garrison Sergeant Major Graham White based at Edinburgh Castle and feature Army personnel from battalions across Scotland, as well as veterans.
Yesterday (27/04/2011), W01 Graham White got a chance to size up his competition ahead of the tie when he met Hearts Legends Player/Manager Alan White at Tynecastle Stadium. They drew the battle lines in preparation for the clash which will see both teams fight it out for The McCrae’s Battalion Trophy.
W01 White said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the military to support Erskine and play against the Hearts Legends. After meeting Alan White, the Erskine Select team say bring it on! Our hopes and aspirations for the match are not to let the Legends side get into double figures! It is a unique opportunity to first of all be asked to captain the team and secondly to get to play on the hollow turf of Tynecastle Stadium – it is a great honour.”
The match kicks off at 1pm on Monday 2nd May 2011 at Tynecastle Stadium. Entry costs £3 per adult and £1 per child. There will also be a series of entertainment taking place in and around the grounds of Tynecastle Stadium on the day.
