The nomination period for Edinburgh’s 41 Community Councils starts on
Monday 31 August. If you want to have your say on local issues, now is
the time to get involved.
Community Councils are groups of volunteers who care about their
community and want to make their area a better place to live. They play
an important role in local democracy by representing the views of the
community to a range of organisations, including the Council, Police,
Scottish Government and NHS Lothian. Nominations are welcome from
individuals or groups.
Community Councils give local residents a chance to influence what
happens in their area. Meetings are held usually once a month and
members get involved in a wide range of issues. Recent activities
include campaigning to save the local post office, improving facilities
at the local park, consulting on parking proposals and organising
community clean ups.
Cllr Jenny Dawe, Leader of the Council said:
“If there is anything at all that you would like addressed in your
local area, I would urge you to get in touch with your Community
Council - they can make a real difference."
The nomination period for the Community Council elections runs between
August 31 and September 14. Elections, if required, will take place on
October 15.
Nomination forms for membership of your community council are available
from your returning officer and on the Council’s website from 31
