lovers have long argued that Scotland lacks a high-impact red carpet
venue for premieres. But yesterday the Scottish Government announced
funding to turn Edinburgh's Festival Theatre into the nation's largest
cinema space.
It has a capacity of 1,600 and is set to host the opening night gala of the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June, say insiders. The £250,000 grant was announced on the last day of the fiscal year, and follows a test screening of Mamma Mia! last year. It will pay for digital and film projection equipment, sound systems, and a temporary screen for single-night cinema while theatre or opera sets are in place. Full story from Edinburgh Evening News |
