Tributes were paid today to a former teacher at James Gillespie's High School who died after falling off his bike in Spain.

Frank Gormlie lapsed into a coma for a week following the accident in the seaside resort of Santander, but he never regained consciousness.

Two of his brothers and three friends flew to Spain to be at his bedside when the 59-year-old, who had retired as principal of media and drama at the school, passed away on 9 October.

A keen cyclist, Mr Gormlie fell off his bike after hitting a rut in the road and was badly injured.
