The UK's biggest coffee shop chain is set to open its first store in Bruntsfield as it continues to expand its Edinburgh operations.

Costa has announced it will open the new branch at the former Bottoms Up off-licence on Bruntsfield Place next month.

The new outlet will offer seating for 61 customers when it launches in March 2009.

It is to pay a rent of £58,000 a year, although it has also secured six months rent free.

Isla Monteith, an agent for property firm Cushman & Wakefield, which represented Costa Coffee, said: "Costa have been seeking premises in this affluent area for some time and are delighted to have found such a well located shop.

"The company is investing a lot of money in the Scottish market and is looking to acquire further units in similar areas in Edinburgh and Glasgow."

Costa was founded by Italian brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa in 1971.

It is now the largest and fastest-growing coffee shop chain in the UK.
