A hotel in the Capital has been awarded a "gold star" by the national tourism organisation.

Prestonfield House Hotel has been awarded gold star status as part of VisitScotland's quality assurance scheme.

The award was introduced last year to highlight establishments that strive to exceed customer expectations and take an innovative and proactive approach to customer care.

Sinead Feltoe, VisitScotland's regional director, said: "Hotels play a huge part in bringing millions of visitors and billions of pounds to our economy, so it is right that they are recognised in this way."
