An advice website created and developed by a group of teenage mums is being officially launched on Friday 5 December at 11am. The Sas-sy Mums website, which recently picked up a Standard Life Achievement award, offers advice and support on the realities and choices facing young mums and their families.

This project is being run by City of Edinburgh Council's Children and Families Department - Community Learning and Development and is based at Goodtrees Neighbourhood Centre in Gilmerton. John Loughton, winner of Celebrity Big-Brother Hijack will be on hand to launch the website at the centre which can be found at 5 Moredunvale Place.

The idea for the website arose when four young mums joined a group to help develop their literacy and soon found they had shared many common experiences. They wanted to help others in a similar situation and Sas-sy Mums was born. The website has helpful information on topics such as finance and health. It tells the stories of the young mum's and encourages readers to get in touch with their own stories.

Cllr Marilyne MacLaren, Convener for Education, Children and Families said: "These young mums are really showing how sassy they can be. This project has grown from the young women's own experiences and is all the more relevant for that. The fact that they are targeting others in the same boat shows how forward looking the group are, and I am sure that the enthusiasm I saw when they gained a Standard Life Achievement Award will see the project go from strength to strength."
