Singer and human rights campaigner Annie Lennox urged pupils to get involved in "domestic level activism" by doing something as simple as giving up one cup of coffee a week to help tackle poverty in South Africa.

The former Eurythmics frontwoman gave the inspirational speech to pupils from ten city secondary schools during a visit to James Gillespie's High yesterday.

She told pupils: "You must never think nothing can be done. With commitment, opportunity and belief, change can happen."
