An Evening with Alastair MacDonald

Alastair MacDonald is a Scottish folk/Christian singer.

The evening is to raise money for Bright Sparks Playgroup.

Bright Sparks provides on-going support for parents of children with many varied medical special needs.  At present we have children who are partially sighted, have partial hearing, autism, Reye's syndrome - each child has their own special needs.  Bright Sparks is the only facility which provides this support in the whole of Midlothian.

The playgroup provides the normal range of play facilities including sand, water, art & crafts, books, construction & pretend play.  We also have a range of more specialised toys of children with additional support needs.  These include a touch screen computer & specialist cause & effect type computer programmes, with switch operated toys & a range of sensory toys & equipment.  We try to offer a place for their child immediately as this offers support for the family right away.

Everyone knows how important music is in everyone's daily life, well we have a Music Therapist who comes in every Thursday to lead our music circle, she does 1:1 and group therapy.  As well as the music, we also offer the parents transport to and from BS if they're without transport or if travelling by public transport is difficult - both these drain our funds (in a nice way!) so these are the 2 main reasons for fundraising.
