The new Liberton Gilmerton Neighbourhood Partnership (LGNP) involves the community, council, police, health and the voluntary sector who will continue the good work of the South Edinburgh Partnership. Neighbourhood Partnerships have been introduced across the city as a means of taking forward the Governments Community Planning agenda, where key partners come together to identify and address local priorities. “The development of the Liberton Gilmerton Neighbourhood Partnership is an important step towards developing longer term strategies and priorities for the communities of South Edinburgh. Staff from both the council and the South Edinburgh Partnership Support Team has worked closely together to ensure a smooth transition and this is evidenced through the Liberton Gilmerton Neighbourhood Partnership’s agreement to adopt the existing sub structures of the South Edinburgh Partnership. This in itself highlights the Neighbourhood Partnerships commitment to continuing the wider regeneration agenda which in turn will continue to provide a range of benefits locally.” (Scott Donkin, South Edinburgh Partnership) All existing sub groups will continue to meet as normal and will continue to develop local initiatives under their respective headings. The only difference will be that each of the sub groups now report directly to the LGNP. In the coming months, a great deal of work will be undertaken to develop the LGNP’s Action Plan which, when adopted, will be developed through the existing sub structure and where necessary, new groups may be introduced. |
