CHAI (Community Help & Advice Initiative)

The CHAI Advice Service provides both generalist and specialist advice, information and representation across a range of social welfare issues (including housing, social security, employment, debt and family law).

The Advice Service operates primarily from premises at 1 Murrayburn Gate in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh.

The ‘Advice Team’ consists of a Service Manager, Deputy Service Manager, Money Advice Worker, Advice Worker (Housing) and generic Advice Workers. They are supported by a team of trained volunteer Advice Workers.

The Advice Service manages a large volume of representation casework around eviction actions at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, as well as handling a significant complex debt caseload using Debt Arrangement Scheme (DAS) Approved Advisers.

An Outreach Advice Surgery is provided through the NHS GP practices in the Oxgangs area, and ‘MoneyWise’ – a financial inclusion project is provided jointly with Capital Credit Union, operating in the Restalrig area.

The Advice Service provides free, confidential and impartial advice, information and representation to residents of South, West and North Edinburgh.
