A scathing Council report on the services offered by Gracemount Youth and Community Centre has been deemed "a work of fiction" by the centre's board.

The report labelled all six areas of evaluation "unsatisfactory", the worst possible grade, and one that indicates "major weaknesses" in the performance of the centre.

But the board at The Mansion was quick to claim, in a response to The Echo, that the document is poorly researched, unbalanced and unfair.

City of Edinburgh Council officials judged the centre on its impact on participants, opportunities for local people, improving its services, policy review, participation of people and deployment and teamwork.

They reported that the centre suffers from rising costs, low attendance, poor communication and lack of provision offered.

However, a statement from the centre reads, "The board believes that this document is a work of fiction and bears almost no resemblance to the work that goes on at The Mansion."
