Woody Herman was one of the most talented bandleaders of the twentieth century. With hits including Woodchopper's Ball, Blue Flame, Four Brothers, and Early Autumn, he remained active and vital long after most of his contemporaries had hung up their batons and famous soloists such as Stan Getz, Zoot Sims and Clark Terry consistently lit up the Herman Orchestra.

Since 1995, the SNJO has earned an international reputation for outstanding quality in celebrating the classic big band repertoire, including Ellington, Basie, Kenton, Mingus, and Evans. Under the direction of saxophonist Tommy Smith [9], a musician who has been highly regarded across the world since his teenage years with Gary Burton, the SNJO has matched its ambition with results.
