The Queen's Hall Music of Afghanistan
19:00 Monday, February 25 2008

Under the Taliban, music was banned in Afghanistan. Following the Taliban's departure, musicians have been able to take up new instruments, or recover their hidden instruments, and now Afghanistan is nurturing a musical re-birth ...

Reel Afghanistan is extremely proud to present this performance by two Afghan musical ensembles direct from Kabul:

Kharabat (taking their name from the Musicians Quarter in Kabul) is a collective of talented artists from within Afghanistan and the UK. Playing a variety of traditional Afghan instruments, they will be joined by Yusuf Mahmoud - one of the world's finest Afghan Tabla players.

The Qawali Sham Sufi group is one of the most highly regarded Qawali groups in Afghanistan and are part of a vibrant musical and spiritual tradition that stretches back more than 700 years (presented in conjunction with the Mawlana Foundation).

Join us for the extremely rare opportunity to hear some of the oldest, most beautiful and emotionally evocative music in the world as performed by somem of the most skilled musicians in Afghanistan and the UK.
