The next stage of a massive regeneration of one of the city's most rundown areas is expected to get the go-ahead from councillors this week.
The plans, which will see 92 new houses and flats built at Hyvots Loan in Moredun, have already received the backing of city planning officials and are set to be approved by councillors on Wednesday. Under the proposals, 60 new flats and 32 houses will be built on Hyvots Loan and Moredun Dykes Road, alongside new roads, parking bays and landscaped gardens.
In a report to councillors, the city's head of planning, Alan Henderson, said: "The proposed layout represents an acceptable environment for future residents, with adequate levels of private and public open space. "It conforms with the masterplan for [the regeneration of] the area and offers a good standard of amenity for future occupants." The scheme has raised no official objections from transport and environment chiefs and only one letter from a local resident concerned about traffic has been submitted to the council. The plans are part of a refurbishment of more than 200 dilapidated flats in Moredun and Hyvots, which started last year when the first tenants were moved into temporary homes. Hundreds more of the 1960s blocks of flats are set to be demolished to make way for new homes.
