FIRST Minister Alex Salmond has officially launched the expansion of Erskine Home for Veterans in Edinburgh yesterday morning.
The Scottish veterans' charity opened their Edinburgh care centre in 2001, and has now chosen to expand to meet the demands of veterans from across the city and the Lothians.
Work is due to begin in April on the construction of a 48 bed extension to supplement the existing 40 bed home.
It is hoped the new beds will be available by next summer.
Jim Scott, chairman of Erskine, Colonel Martin Gibson, chief executive of the charity, and residents all joined the First Minister, who laid the first bricks of the new building.
