The chair of Moredun Community Centre's management committee has moved to quash suggestions that a new centre is to be built using £2m of lottery grant money.

A number of local people contacted the centre to ask for advice on how to secure lottery funding after rumour spread that a new centre was to be paid for entirely by grants.

But Anne Burn said that just £10,000 was received, and that money will pay for a part-time employee to look into plans for a new centre.

Ms Burn said, "We're delighted to be awarded £10,000 of lottery money to employ a development worker to take forward the management committee's vision for a new centre and we look forward to working with our community to achieve our vision.

"The local community will be full consulted over the proposed development, and there will be the opportunity for local people, neighbours and people using the centre to say what they think is best for the new centre."
